I am a contemporary painter, photographer and sculptor based in the United States. I paint in acrylic, water-miscible oils and watercolor and I sculpt with metal wire; my photos are often taken with a smartphone camera. Like many artists, I started to draw as a child. At the same time, I was also very interested in science and for many years I pursued a career in scientific research in the US and in Europe. The impact of the culture and arts in these regions blended with the somewhat disparate aesthetics associated with my Japanese heritage and Brazilian upbringing, and this mixture of influences shaped my artistic style.
My art attempts to integrate the differences among various cultures into a cohesive vision of humanity. It asks what it really means to be human, beyond all the surface appearances. My photographs strive equally to reach the essence of something or a place.
